Air Creebec
| Description: | The foundation of Air Creebec inc. goes back to 1979. In the few years following the signature if the James Bay a Northern Agreement, rose an unprecedented opportunity for the Cree Regional Authority to get involved in the transportation business. The Cree Nation constituted a concrete and flourishing market and required the services of an airline whose main objective was to satisfy their growing demands.
Following this agreement in the Spring of 1979, the Grand Chief of the Crees of Quebec and Austin Airways held their first meeting. This meeting and others that followed, led to the creation of a Cree owned airline known as Air Creebec inc. When Air Creebec inc. started its operation in 1982, the Crees owned 51% of the interest in the company and Austin Airways, held the remaining 49%.
In 1988, the purchase of the Northern Ontario assets for was the largest commercial deal to its date performed by any Native group in Canada. This now made Air Creebec inc. 100% Cree owned.
From 30 employees in 1986 to 165 employees by 2000, Air Creebec inc. has grown into a strong and reliable airline.
Air Creebec inc. has become well established in the charter field and is respected for its quality of service due to our ability to respond quickly and efficiently. This quality proves to be appreciated especially during response to emergences such as forest fires, flooding as well as its normal service. |
