| Description: | Over the last two decades, Singapore Airlines has grown from a regional airline into one of the world\'s leading passenger and cargo carriers. Today, they have a modern and young fleet of aircraft. Their home base, Changi Airport, is regularly voted the world\'s best, and serves as our gateway to Asia and beyond.
As at 1 December 2003, SIA operates 96 passenger aircraft with 23 more on order and another 45 on option. The average age of the passenger fleet is 5 years 7 months.
To offer passengers a greater choice of products and access to a much larger network, Singapore Airlines has entered into partnerships and alliances with other airlines.
Through equity partnership in Virgin Atlantic, it is yet another step towards SIA\'s objective of offering its passengers a wider range of services and benefits. This is achieved through mutual airline growth, such as complementary route networks, high service standards, excellent brands, a more extensive frequent flyer programme presence, the availability of more passenger lounges and airport facilities for passengers to utilise, and growth for trade and tourism in the region.
In April 2000, SIA joined the Star Alliance as its eleventh member, putting it into a position to provide customers with enhanced benefits, such as easier access to a global network, more travel options, and convenient connections. |
