Starwood Starpoints
In 2003, Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) members were offered a new program. The members were allowed to purchase Starpoints for a minimal fee and use the Starpoints for vacations, travel and gifts. That was the beginning of a long line of special offers presented by Starwood Starpoints. In the beginning, the plan was called Starwood Purchase Plan and over time has become known as Starwood Starpoints.
Starpoints is a loyalty program for the Starwood Hotel Group and can be used for free stays. Frequent flyer program miles can be increased by transferring the Starpoints earned into earned miles for air travel. You can earn Starpoints by booking flights on participating airline partners. Starpoints are used for purchasing Amtrak tickets and still available for the purchase of gifts and merchandise. You can also earn points using a partner like AVIS to rent a car.
Each time you purchase items using the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express you earn points. Point redemption is encouraged using a partner such as Skywards where you can redeem 1500 Starpoints for 1500 air miles.
Starwood Starpoints is a top class awards structure offering a three tier system of awards points. Preferred level is the first level. Gold is the second level and Platinum is the top level. Each level has benefits and as the member moves from Preferred to Gold then Platinum, the Starwood Starpoints increase and become more valuable. |
